It may not be easy, but it's no longer nigh-impossible. RAPT makes building an Android app easier. Once you have a package you like, you can upload it to the Android Market, Amazon App Store (probably) or wherever. It moves us to a package-based approach, where you're expected to build a package, transfer it to your device, and test it like any other application.
It also was something of an excuse for me - it was easy to get started developing, so it didn't matter if it was hard to get a package to market.
This meant that the app would run in an environment that was different from how it would run when packaged. Until now, I expected people to place files on their SD card as part of the development process, and run them with the Ren'Py Launcher.
